Headley Community Shop maybe small but it is a complex business to run.
The store operates on a not for profit basis with 165 local shareholders.
Our small group of employees are supported by a loyal band of volunteers who enjoy the experience offered and make friends in the process.
This business model allows us to provide a truly personal, local service while keeping costs and prices as low as possible.

New volunteers are always welcome, with the opportunity to be involved for just a couple of hours a week. Induction and support is available and there is a wide range of tasks that are undertaken:
- serving customers
- shelf stacking
- stock taking
- cool cabinet temperature checks
- newspaper preparation and deliveries
- daily preparation of our popular filled rolls
- contributing to and serving at the weekly cafe and monthly lunch club
- maintaining shop cleanliness
- or just chatting with customers!
To quote one recruit:-
“I enjoy my time helping in the shop. Although I’ve lived in the area for many years, it has given me the opportunity to become much more familiar with the community and its personalities. New customers frequently comment about what a lovely shop it is and the friendly atmosphere. The shop is well organised and there is an almost seamless crossover of responsibilities between the permanent employees and the volunteers without whom the shop could not operate.”
This is your opportunity to really participate in the communities of Headley & Ashford Hill.
